MOSCOW, November 23 (Itar-Tass) — The law enforcement agencies curbed a hostile takeover of the Kvant space company in Rostov-on-Don, head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos Vladimir Popovkin said in the State Duma on Friday.

“We addressed to the law enforcement agencies in Rostov-on-Don and as far as we are concerned the hostile takeover of Kvant was cracked down,” Popovkin said in reply to a question of the State Duma deputy.

The research-and-production space instrument-making enterprise Kvant was instituted by the decree of the Soviet Ministry of Defence Industry on August 10, 1979 – the Rostov subsidiary of the Azov optical mechanical plant. In 1980 the enterprise was transformed in the space plant Kvant, which is specialized in the production of optical electronic navigation devices and astronavigation spacecraft. In 1994 the enterprise was reorganized in the open joint stock company.

The Kvant space plant is currently specialized in research-and-development works in the creation of optical electronic navigation devices and the equipment for the stabilization of spacecraft of Roscosmos and the Defence Ministry, as well as the production and maintenance of optical electronic navigation devices and the equipment for the stabilization of spacecraft. Kvant is also engaged in scientific-research works in the designing and production of autonomous ground devices for the orbital navigation systems.
