KIEV, November 22 (Itar-Tass) – Ukraine is holding talks with the World Trade Organization /WTO/ on a revision of terms for joining the organization, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said Thursday at a conference with members of the Ukrainian Federation of Employers.

“We’re really holding well-specified talks and trying to find compromise solutions and I think we’ll attain them,” he said.

Azarov recalled that the talks on joining the WTO had taken sixteen years and the terms that had been discussed throughout period were not quite beneficial for Ukraine in what concerned a number of sectoral agreements.

“Thus Ukraine has initiated a revision of a big enough number of provisions for joining the WTO,” Azarov said. “The WTO Charter envisions the powers for each member-state to do this and an appropriate procedure.”

Ukraine joined the WTO May 16, 2008. It became the 152nd full-fledged member of the organization but the country’s government said recently it was going to press for a downward revision of hundreds of especially high fees, which had been coordinated previously.
