Five police chiefs disciplined for shooting incident in Sretensk

The police chief in the Sretensk district was fired from the police

ULAN-UDE, November 22 (Itar-Tass) —— Upon the results of the internal police inquiry five police chiefs were brought to disciplinary responsibility after the shooting incident in Sretensk, where the drunken police officer opened fire at the cars.

Police chief Roman Deyev signed a decree to bring to disciplinary responsibility the police chiefs of the territorial department of the Interior Ministry and the police station in the Sretensk district, the Baikal territorial police department of the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“The police chief in the Sretensk district was fired from the police. The police chief for the work with the police staff and the chief of the territorial police department, an aide to the police chief of the police station in the Sretensk district and the chief of the district detention centre were reprimanded,” the police source said.

A 31-year-old drunken police captain and duty police officer in the Sretensk police station, who opened the fire spree at the cars in the town of Sretensk on Wednesday, was fired from the police back on Thursday morning.

The police officer has made about five gunshots from his service pistol at the Nissan car driving nearby with a local woman behind the wheel and an UAZ car, which belongs to the Baikal territorial department of the Federal Bailiff Service. No people were injured in the fire spree.

The call about a man, who was shooting at the cars in the streets, came in the law enforcement agencies at about 22:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time) on November 21. Several hours later the police detained the police shooter.

The inquiry was launched over the incident. “The detectives are working with the detained policeman and are interrogating the witnesses of the incident. The police requested for the documents necessary for the investigation and the materials characterizing the policeman. The detectives will be searching through the crime scene and will be examining the damaged cars. Upon the results of the inquiry a procedural decision will be taken,” Markov noted.

The reasons, for which the policeman opened fire at the cars, are not reported officially. However, according to some reports, the alcohol intoxication triggered the feeling in the policeman that the cars wanted to hit him.
