MOSCOW, November 22 (Itar-Tass) — Russia recognises Palestine as an independent state and upholds its application for upgrading the status in the U.N., Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
“If the Palestinian leadership takes such political decision, this is their right. We recognise Palestine as an independent state and support its application,” Lukashevich said.
In the beginning of November Palestinian representatives to the U.N. circulated a draft resolution on granting the observer status to Palestine. The voting on this issue is expected to take place in the U.N. General Assembly on November 29.
