MOSCOW, November 19 (Itar-Tass) — Russia is preparing an appeal against the U.S. Department of Justice’s denial of its request to extradite convicted Russian businessman Viktor Bout, Konstantin Dolgov, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, said on Monday.
“There is an appeal, it is being prepared,” he said.
“We will not push this issue aside, we will actively work,” he said. “We raise the issue at the highest level. We will also actively work on the Bout case at all levels.”
“The main thing is to bring Viktor Bout back to Russia,” Dolgov said.
Last April Viktor Bout, 45, was found guilty by a US court of a plot to sell weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – an organization listed terrorist in the United States – and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
