Police open criminal case over flare incident at football game in Moscow

MOSCOW, November 18 (Itar-Tass) — The police have opened a criminal case over an act of hooliganism during a football match at the stadium in the Moscow regional city of Khimki, where Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Anton Shunin was injured in the explosion of the flare, the press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

The Russian Premier League match between Dynamo Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg that was held at the Arena stadium in Khimki on Saturday was interrupted after a flare hurled from the guest sector exploded near Dynamo goalkeeper Anton Shunin. The goalkeeper got a cornea burn and was hospitalized.

The police have detained 53 fans from the sector for Zenit to suppress the hooliganism actions.

The police believe that the offender might be among the detainees.

“The Khimki police investigation department has opened a criminal case for hooliganism over illegal actions of the fans. All necessary investigation actions are being taken, the records from the video monitoring cameras are being examined to find and detain the offender, other active hooligans are being searched for,” the press centre reported.
