MOSCOW, November 18 (Itar-Tass) — Two people, presumably the pilot and a passenger, have died as a result of heavy helicopter touchdown in Russia’s Ivanovo region, a source at the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass.
“According to the latest reports, two people died when a Mi-2 helicopter had a rough landing in the Ivanovo region,” the source said.
The Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations clarified that initially there had been three people onboard. “One of the passengers had disembarked earlier while the helicopter continued the flight,” the Ministry said.
The helicopter had a rough landing in the Komsomolsky district, six kilometers away from the Oktyabrsky populated locality near a dam on the bank of Lake Markushskoye, at 20:19 Moscow time on November 17.
The pilot was stranded in the destroyed cockpit and died of traumas. The passenger also died.
The helicopter was on in its way from the Moscow region. It belonged to a private person. According to preliminary reports, the flight was unsanctioned. A forester who happened to witness the tough landing reported the incident to the emergency services, a law enforcement source told Itar-Tass.
Rescue teams are working at the scene.
