Prosecutor's office has discovered 47 crimes concealed by policemen in Chita

Mass violations of the law are discovered as a result of the checking

ULAN-UDE, November 16 (Itar-Tass) — The Trans-Baikal regional prosecutor's office has discovered 47 crimes concealed by policemen at the Central and Northern police stations in Chita.

The mass violations of the law are discovered as a result of the checking conducted by the regional prosecutor's office, its press service told Itar-Tass.

The facts of intentional concealing of crimes without registration were found in the work of the police stations. Policemen, when considering reports about crimes, deliberately concealed or misinterpreted circumstances of an incident or insisted on changing facts in a complaint, including with the use of psychological pressure on a complainant, a press service source said.

Among the "decriminalization" mechanisms is lowering of the sum of damage in cases of thefts of bags and other property from cars. Sometimes, policemen reported false information that property or documents were lost through carelessness of victims themselves when the things were stolen. Policemen misled the victims, convincing them that it was easier and faster to receive new documents if the documents were lost, but not stolen.

The policemen also reported about grave crimes such as robberies or serious bodily harm as lighter offences.

The prosecutors believe in most cases the policemen tried to conceal crimes because they were unwilling to solve difficult cases.

At present, all the unlawful decisions of the police investigators are reversed. Criminal cases are opened over all the facts, the press service said.

A criminal case is opened on power abuse charges against an operative of the Severny (Northern) criminal investigation police department, Gasan Amayev, who deliberately concealed two crimes, thefts of property of citizens.

The notification is sent to the chief of the Trans-Baikal regional police department who is expected to eliminate law violations and bring officials who did not prevent the violations to account.
