PERM, November 14 (Itar-Tass) — Three persons died and another nine were hospitalized in a chlorine leak at a plant in the town of Berezniki, Perm Territory. In all, 38 people sought medical assistance and requested a medical check, the press service of the regional department of the Emergency Situations Ministry /EMERCOM/ told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at the AVISMA metallurgical production association. "Preliminary reports said the chlorine unit depressurized and an emission of chlorine occurred. The information about the casualties is being specified; there is no threat to the population," an EMERCOM official emphasized.
All the emergency services are working at the scene. A group of personnel from the regional EMERCOM department is joining them.
