EKATERINBURG, November 13 (Itar-Tass) — The Beryozovsky City Court in the Sverdlovsk Region ruled on Tuesday to arrest in absentia vice-president of the City Without Drugs fund Yevgeny Malenkin, who was put on the international wanted list for the illegal deprivation of freedom of the drug rehabilitants, senior aide to the head of the regional investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee Alexander Shulga told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“Since Malenkin was already charged in absentia, the court ruled in absentia to put the accused in custody,” he said.

The detectives found that enough evidence had already been gathered over Malenkin’s involvement in the forcible keeping of the drug addicts in the centres of the City Without Drugs fund. The criminal case was opened under an article of the Russian Criminal Code for illegal deprivation of freedom.

Large-scale searches were made within this criminal case at the office of the City Without Drugs fund in Yekaterinburg on November 2. Several drug rehabilitants testified that “the guards of the fund brought them forcibly in the centre,” and said about the developed system of punishment from psychological to physical violence, to which the drug addicts were exposed to.”
