MOSCOW, November 13 (Itar-Tass) — Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Sergei Neverov does not rule out that Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin will not run for the post of Secretary General of the Moscow regional organization of the United Russia party in the election due in the end of November.
"Today, under conditions of a multi-party system dozens of parties have already been registered, including 28 which may take part in the election. The city mayor should cooperate with all the political forces, while as the head of the United Russia regional department he should defend the interests of his party only, Neverov explained.
At the United Russia congress held in May Sergei Sobyanian was elected to the United Russian High Council, and he has been carrying on a very important work, developing the United Russia strategy and taking part in settlement of many important problems of its activity, Neverov said. "Let us not overlook the fact that Sergei Semyonovich has been head of the Russian capital, and that this work takes 24 hours per day," Neverov said.
Therefore, Neverov did not rule out that for that reason Sergei Sobyanin might make a decision not to take part in the election of the Secretary of the United Russia regional department. Neverov reminded of the fact that the electin of secretaries of the United Russia regional departments are held on an alternative basis. In Moscow, the United Russia has many bright representatives - Gonchar, Metelsky, Platonov, Zheleznyak, Neverov noted." I am confident that the conference of the Moscow regional organization of the United Russia party will elect a worthy candidate who will continue to develop the United Russia Moscow organization and will do everything possible to ensure that the United Russia be always a good assistant of the Moscow authorities on whom they can rely on," Neverov said.
The election of Secretary of the United Russia a Moscow regional department was scheduled for November 24.
