MOSCOW, November 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Speaking at a meeting of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights on Monday, November 12, President Vladimir Putin said he did not want to comment on the recent presidential elections in the United States.
“Are the Americans right or wrong when they do not let foreign observers be present at their polling stations? Let them do as they wish. We mind our own business,” he said.
“When I said to them that their election legislation is imperfect because it allows the one for whom fewer people vote to become president, [they said] it’s none of our business and why don’t we mind our own business. Then why should we allow them to do otherwise?” Putin said.
“When we get together to discuss our own ailments, that’s different. But when someone tries to guide us on the sly, by financing certain structures, I think it’s wrong and we should at least know who these people are,” the president said.
He does not understand what is so “unusual or undemocratic” about this requirement. “I don’t think there are some elements that run counter to the development of democratic principles in our society,” he added.
According to Putin, “Everything that is not related to politics should not be subject to regulation by this law”.
He suggested that the Council meet again to discuss this issue.
“Whatever we do, we do it for one purpose only, that our country becomes effective and sustainable. But it cannot be more sustainable if leans only on law enforcement and repressive bodies. It will be more sustainable of our society is more organised, efficient and responsible,” Putin said.
