MOSCOW, November 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested reorganizing the upgraded council for the promotion of civil society and human rights. He speculated that the council might decide to have a rotating presidium.
Putin recalled that the Council had been considerably expanded.
In his opinion certain issues arise how to go about the business of organizing the work of such a great number of participants to make the council effective and capable of influencing not only the president, but also the bodies of executive power and law enforcement.
“There have been various proposals, including those for creating working groups for certain lines of activity. However, the main thing is to establish direct contact that would help address the tasks facing the council,” Putin said.
“There should not be anything fundamentally new on the list of the council’s duties,” Putin believes. He hopes for continuity. Also, Putin believes it will be necessary for the Council to pay attention to all aspects of life – political affairs, government organization and social matters.”
“The people are waiting for those whose profession is to take care of the human rights to furnish substantial support, in particular, then when government mechanisms malfunction,” Putin said. He explained that he understood that as “direct feedback with society reaching the highest bodies of power, which would enable us to better the instruments of government control and create conditions for addressing issues in the interests of citizens.”
