MOSCOW, November 12 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow City Court released on a bail of five million roubles Monday former deputy general director of the Russian state-run nuclear corporation Rosatom Yevgeny Yevstratov, who is accused of massive budget misappropriation. Thus, the appeal of the lawyer was satisfied.
Yevstratov is accused of massive fraud. From December 2007 to April 2011 he was in charge of nuclear and radiation security of the enterprises in the nuclear industry. “About 50 million roubles were allocated approximately at the same period of time to fulfil research work for the enterprises of the nuclear industry. However, instead of working on their own developments, employees of the enterprise downloaded scientific materials from the internet and posed them as their know-how and misappropriated the budget funds,” the Russian Interior Ministry said before.
Meanwhile, Rosatom stated that the violations, for which Yevstratov was detained, were committed on the premises of the enterprises of the Russian state-run nuclear corporation in St. Petersburg and Murmansk. Yevstratov was in charge of the activities of these nuclear enterprises. “The investigation continues over this episode in Murmansk already for a long time, the first detention was made in September 2010,” Rosatom said.
The Russian state-owned nuclear corporation is working consistently to create a transparent system of the complex counteraction to corruption threats, Rosatom spokesman Sergei Novikov told Itar-Tass before. “Since March 2009, 208 chief executives of the enterprises of the Russian state-run nuclear corporation have been brought to various types of responsibility at the initiative of domestic controlling groups, 68 top managers were fired,” he noted.
Rosatom is cooperating actively in this issue with the law enforcement agencies. For instance, 110 packages with the criminal materials were submitted to the law enforcement agencies upon the results of the internal investigations for the previous year alone.
