Fishing schooner sinks in Yuzhno-Kurilsk strait

Crew consisted of 14 sailors saved

MOSCOW, November 12 (Itar-Tass) — A fishing schooner sank in the Yuzhno-Kurilsk Strait near Yuzhno-Kurilsk. The crew has been saved, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass on Monday.

“The fishing schooner Zinto Maru, which is registered at the port Kholmsk, sank at 11:45 Moscow time on Monday in the Pacific in Yuzhno-Kurilsk Strait, 40 kilometres south of Yuzhno-Kurilsk,” the ministry said.

The crew consisted of 14 sailors. “They were saved by the Yanto Maru vessel sailing nearby,” the ministry reported.
