Sergei Naryshkin joins United Russia party

Until now, Naryshkin has not been a member of any party and was member of United Russia’s Supreme Council

MOSCOW, November 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Speaker of Russia’s State Duma Sergei Naryshkin is joining the United Russia party.

“Until today, I have been an unaffiliated member of the faction, and I have made a decision to join the United Russia party,” he told a meeting of the faction on Saturday.

Naryshkin added he had filed an application to a local division of the party in the Leningrad region, from which in December of 2012 on United Russia’s list he was elected to the State Duma. “I hope they will consider it in November.”

Naryshkin told reporters that additional reason for his decision to join the party was the opportunity “to influence effectively the legislative activities with the focus on the party’s position and its biggest representation at the State Duma.”

He said that over a year /from the moment he was elected to the State Duma/ he was a member of the United Russia faction, being an affiliated speaker. “I have always considered it most important to organise work of the State Duma and to provide necessary conditions for effective inter-party and inter-faction dialogues, and to provide equal positions for all the factions,” he said adding that at the present stage he believed he succeeded in that task.

Until now, Naryshkin has not been a member of any party and was member of United Russia’s Supreme Council, following the election during the party’s congress in May.
