One man killed, one child hurt in fire at hostel in Volgograd region

Fire on an area more than 400 square meters was reported at about 02:00 a.m.

VOLGOGRAD, November 9 (Itar-Tass) — One man died and one child was hurt in a fire that broke out at a hostel in the town of Frolovo, Russia’s southern Volgograd region, overnight to Friday, a spokeswoman for the regional department of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass.

According to the spokeswoman, the fire on an area more than 400 square meters was reported at about 02:00 a.m. “The hostel was ruined by the fire. More than 30 people were evacuated. One man died and a nine-year-old boy was hospitalized with burns of 54 percent of the body. He is in serious condition. According to preliminary information, the conflagration was caused by mishandling of fire,” the spokeswoman said.

Local emergencies department however said it was not a hostel but a residential house and specified that 36 people had been evacuated from the building.

An investigation is underway.
