MOSCOW, November 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sent congratulations to U.S. President Barack Obama in connection with his re-election.
The patriarch “is convinced that relations between the peoples of our countries will continue to develop and strength during his [Obama’s] new term of presidency”.
“The choice made by the people of the United States testifies to the trust that your fellow citizens have in your political course. This places special responsibility on you for the millions of people who have pinned their hopes for better life on you,” Kirill said.
He noted that the Russian Orthodox Church in the U.S., where it has been present for more than 200 years, “enjoys proper respect”.
“I hope that the authorities in your country will pay attention to the needs of our believers,” the patriarch said.
He wished Obama “spiritual and bodily strength, God’s help and success in in your work at the highest public post” and “peace, prosperity and wellbeing” to the American people.
