VLADIVOSTOK, November 6 (Itar-Tass) —— The law enforcement agencies detained the general director of the Nikolayevsk-on-Amur seaport, which is the shipowner of the bulk carrier Amurskaya, which went missing in the Sea of Okhotsk on October 28, spokesperson of the Far Eastern transport investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee Natalia Salkina said on Tuesday.

“The general director of the Nikolayevsk-on-Amur seaport was detained during the investigation into the criminal case on November 5, 2012. The seaport is a shipowner of the bulk carrier Amurskaya,” Salkina said.

The investigators continue the investigation in the criminal case, which was opened over the wreck of the bulk carrier Amurskaya in the Sea of Okhotsk off the Shantarskie Islands. The criminal case was opened under Article 263 Part 3 of the Criminal Code for violation of the navigation safety rules and the steering of vessels that entailed the death of two and more people through negligence.

The suspect will face charges soon. He is about to be brought in custody.

The bulk carrier Amurskaya set out from the port Kiran in the Tuguro-Chumikansky district in the Khabarovsk Territory on October 28. The detectives found that the bulker was carrying 700-750 tonnes of gold-bearing ore. The deadweight of the bulker is 611 tonnes. The experts believed that the cargo could have shifted amid a heavy pitching in a stormy weather that resulted in the immediate capsizing and sinking of the bulk carrier.

The crew of the bulker consisted of nine people, their fate is unclear.
