CAIRO, November 5 (Itar-Tass) —— President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt has accepted the invitation from President Vladimir Putin to visit Russia in the near future.
The invitation to pay a visit at the earliest opportunity was handed over by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his meeting with the president of Egypt on Monday, November 5.
The message reaffirmed “Russia’s readiness for immediate cooperation in various areas” trade, industry and science” and stressed “the importance of coordination with Egypt on Syrian and Palestinian developments”.
“President Mors has accepted the invitation to visit Russia in the near future and noted the importance of restoring special relations with Russia and the need for Moscow to use its international influence in the resolution of pressing problems in the Middle East, primarily in stopping the bloodshed in Syria,” presidential spokesperson Yasser Ali said.
The president also urged the Russian leadership to continue active participation in the Middle East Quartet of international mediators (U.N., EU, Russia and the U.S.), given Moscow’s role in the Palestinian issue.
