MOSCOW, November 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The Caspian flotilla to have impressive rocket and artillery capabilities by 2016, Flotilla Commander, Rear-Admiral Sergei Alekminsky said on Saturday, November 3.

“New ships armed with Kalibr rocket systems will arrive in May and we will be getting two ships every year afterwards,” he told Ekho Moskvy radio.

The new ships will have a crew of 62 and will be both sea- and river-going.

The flotilla will also get the ship Volgodonsk which has already been put in a state of permanent readiness and the ship Makhachkala that will arrive late this year or early next year.

The flotilla has already received the new ship Dagestan this year. It is armed with the Kalibr system that has a firing range of more than 2,000 kilometres ashore and 350 kilometres at sea.
