MOSCOW, November 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The Right cause party should change overhaul its programme completely, its leader Andrei Dunayev said at a party congress on Saturday, November 3.
“We should state our message very clearly, change ideology and probably the name, and rebrand,” he said. “We are giving up the word ‘liberal’ and will become a party in all respects, a national-patriotic party, if you wish so.”
Dunayev is convinced that the party should move in this direction. Only then will it be able to survive as a political structure. “The country has changed and the party should change too,” he said.
He stressed that the party has only six months to change. “If we do not do it within six months, the party will be dead,” he warned.
Dunayev also stressed that over the past year the party “has lost the struggle for the voter” and “so far the only thing everyone remembers about us is scandals”.
At the same time, he believes that the party should not stop fighting and urged his fellow party members to work out a new programme and start preparing for the next elections in 2013.
“We are able to compete for seats in the Moscow City Duma and nominate our candidate for the mayor as well,” he said.
Right Cause is a political party in Russia with representatives in several local legislatures. Founded on February 18, 2009 after a merger of the Union of Right Forces, Civil Power and the Democratic Party of Russia, the party's main policy positions are a liberal free market economy, democracy and protection of the rights of the middle class. Although widely regarded as a pro-Kremlin party, it has put been in opposition to the presidential administration on several occasions.
