NOVO-OGAREVO, November 2 (Itar-Tass) — The president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yuri Osipov, has initiated the creation of a united academic university in Russia that can be included in the world’s top 100 universities.
At the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday he emphasized that everything was ready for this step and “it is necessary to finalize formalities.”
When ratings of the top 100 list of most reputable universities are produced, universities’ research activity is the main criteria, Osipov said.
He also noted that the Russian Academy of Sciences can consider the creation of “such a department in the Academy that would be responsible education issues.”
“Let’s try to do this, the more so the Academy has such opportunities,” Putin said. “It could be real to combine research and education activities.”
The Russian president set the task for Russian higher education institutions to enter the world’s top 100 list in the near future.
