MOSCOW, November 1 (Itar-Tass) — A suspect in the criminal case over the murder of an Azerbaijani citizen by police has turned himself into the investigator, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.
"One of the suspects in the criminal case reported to the investigator and wrote a statement of confession to the crime," Markin said, adding that his name was Andrei Alyokhin.
On Wednesday, reports said the investigators had asked the court to arrest the three police officers suspected of murder, abduction and extortion.
According to the Interior Ministry, the suspects tried to come in possession of the car belonging to their acquaintance on September 5. They stabbed him at least 77 times. When the man, a 22-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan, died, the suspects hid his body in a wooded area in the village of Zagoryansky, Moscow region, and fled in the stolen car, which the investigators found in the yard of the apartment house of one of the suspects, a police officer.
The suspects were detained in a joint operation by SK personnel and agents of the Interior Ministry’s department for the Central Federal District. They were identified as Khoroshevo-Mnevniki precinct police Dmitry Kolotovkin, Alexander Vlasenko and Artyom Skubak.
The case materials were handed over to the SK department for Moscow. The suspects were relieved of their duties.
Head of the Interior Ministry’s main department Anatoly Yakunin dismissed five senior police officials of the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki department, and ordered performance review for the remaining personnel.
