PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, November 1 (Itar-Tass) —— A criminal case has been opened over mass poisoning of schoolchildren in a secondary school on the settlement of Yelizovo in Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka Territory, a spokesman for the territorial administration of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

According to investigators, as many as 12 schoolchildren aged from seven to 15 were hospitalized with acute enteric infection in the evening on October 31, 2012. The children said they had had meals at the school’s canteen.

Investigators have taken food and drinking water samples and examined the canteen’s personnel.

A criminal case was opened on charges of offering services of improper quality (part 1, article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code).
