100 Petersburg police fired for taking drugs

Number of police officers will have to take tests again, to clear the "moot points" related to the use of medicines

ST PETERSBURG, October 31 (Itar-Tass) — Some 100 Petersburg police officers have been fired for taking narcotics, following the results of tests in the city and the Leningrad region, regional police chief Sergei Umnov told the local legislative body on Wednesday.

"The check exposed a number of unpleasant facts. Some 100 persons, who had used drugs, were exposed. As of now, all have been relieved of their duties," Umnov said.

The check is almost complete. A number of police officers will have to take tests again, to clear the "moot points" related to the use of medicines, the police official said.
