Indonesian court has sentenced a Russian citizen to eleven years in prison for drugs trafficking

BANGKOK, October 31 (Itar-Tass) — An Indonesian court on Bali has sentenced a Russian citizen to eleven years in prison for drugs trafficking.

The defendant was implicated in an attempt of transportation of almost 700 grams of hashish in his stomach in a bid to deceive the Customs.

The Russian citizen, whose name was not announced, was detained at Bali airport in April 2012.Before boarding a flight in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) the Russian citizen had swallowed 259 capsules containing 695 grams of hashish all in all. The Russian citizen convicted for drugs trafficking was also administered a fine worth 80,000 euro.

Earlier in October the Indonesian court also administered a fine and sentenced another Russian citizen, Alexander Simonov, to eight years in prison for a similar crime.

The Indonesian authorities have established no link between the two episodes of attempted drugs transportation.
