This is not the first attempt on the life of clergymen in Dagestan for the last few months.

So, last March imam of the Buinaksk central mosque Gitinomagomed Abdulgapurov and a policeman guarding him died in the blast of a homemade explosive device. Last June unidentified gunmen in masks broke in the rural mosque and gunned down imam Magomedkamil Gamzatov and a parishioner in Karamakhi in the Buinaksk district in Dagestan. In late August an influential religious figure Said Afandi of Chirkey was killed in the explosion of a female suicide bomber in the Dagestani village Chirkey. On October 14 the gunmen shot down imam of the local mosque Ismail Gadzhiyev in Uchkent, the Kumtorkali district.
