This is not the first attempt on the life of clergymen in Dagestan for the last few months.

Last June unidentified gunmen in masks broke in the rural mosque and gunned down imam Magomedkamil Gamzatov and a parishioner in Karamakhi in the Buinaksk district in Dagestan. In late August an influential religious figure Said Afandi of Chirkey was killed in the explosion of a female suicide bomber in the Dagestani village Chirkey. On October 14 the gunmen shot down imam of the local mosque Ismail Gadzhiyev in Uchkent, the Kumtorkali district.
