MAKHACHKALA, October 30 (Itar-Tass) — The imam of the Makhachkala mosque Kalimulla Ibragimov, his father and brother were killed in the Dagestani city Derbent on Tuesday morning, a source in the republican law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“According to preliminary reports, two unidentified gunmen shot down the imam and his relatives at about 05:00 Moscow time on the Aeroportovskoye highway, when they were going to the mosque for a morning prayer. All three men died of wounds instantaneously. The attack was delivered not far from the house, where Ibragimov lived,” the source said.
According to available reports, the criminals escaped in a car Lada-Kalina.
The team of detectives is working at the murder scene.
The investigation into the murder continues.
This is not the first attempt on the life of clergymen in Dagestan for the last few months.
So, last March imam of the Buinaksk central mosque Gitinomagomed Abdulgapurov and a policeman guarding him died in the blast of a homemade explosive device. Last June unidentified gunmen in masks broke in the rural mosque and gunned down imam Magomedkamil Gamzatov and a parishioner in Karamakhi in the Buinaksk district in Dagestan. In late August an influential religious figure Said Afandi of Chirkey was killed in the explosion of a female suicide bomber in the Dagestani village Chirkey. On October 14 the gunmen shot down imam of the local mosque Ismail Gadzhiyev in Uchkent, the Kumtorkali district.
