Party of Regions leads parliamentary polls, opposition close on its heels

The ruling Party of Regions has 32.77 percent of votes, the opposition Batkivshchina party 23.55 percent, the Communist Party 14.23 percent, UDAR 13.29 percent

KIEV, October 29 (Itar-Tass) —— The Central Election Commission has processed 77.77 percent of protocols reflecting ballots cast for candidates who ran on party tickets in the October 28 parliamentary elections.

According to the latest data, the ruling Party of Regions has 32.77 percent of votes, the opposition Batkivshchina party 23.55 percent, the Communist Party 14.23 percent, UDAR 13.29 percent, and Svoboda (9.27 percent).

Work is also underway to count ballots cast for candidates who ran by the first-past-the-post system. Preliminary results indicate that the Party of Regions’ candidates are in the lead and have won in 115 constituencies.

The elections were held by a mixed system: 225 MPs were elected from parties and as many ran in majoritarian constituencies.
