Party of Regions leads with almost 25 % of votes counted

KIEV, October 29 (Itar-Tass) — The Ukrainian Party of Regions looks set to win a parliamentary majority after almost 25 of ballot papers have been processed. It gets 37.27 percent of the votes, while the Batkivshchina United Opposition gets about 21 percent.

The Communist party has 15.4 percent, while UDAR (Punch) of heavyweight boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko gets 12.4 percent. The right-wing nationalist party Svoboda wins 7.2 percent after almost one quarter of ballot papers have been processed.

In this situation, the Party of Regions of President Viktor Yanukovich would have 90 seats in the parliament, while the opposition would have 50 seats. The Communist Party would secure 37 seats in this situation, while the nationalists – 18 seats.

However, the results of the vote counting will be considerably different, as the Party of Regions leads in 112 single-seat constituencies after 15 percent of the votes have been counted there. Opposition candidates lead in 37 majority constituencies, Svoboda leads in seven constituencies, while UDAR – in five.
