Party of Regions gets about 40 percent with 10 % of votes counted

According to its preliminary data, the voter turnout was 58.01 percent

KIEV, October 29 (Itar-Tass) — The lead of the Party of Regions seems not as convincing as at the start of the vote counting after more than ten percent of the votes have been counted. It now scores 39.87 percent with 10.18 percent of the votes counted, the Ukrainian Central Election Commission reports.

The Batkivshchina United Opposition gets 19.61 percent of the votes cast, the Communist Party has 15.8 percent, UDAR (Punch) of heavyweight boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko gets 11.6 percent, while the right-wing nationalist party Svoboda has 6.21 percent with 10.18 percent of the votes counted, the CEC reports.

According to its preliminary data, the voter turnout was 58.01 percent. This is almost the same figure as during the parliamentary election of 2007, when 57.97 percent of eligible voters took part in the election.
