Gunman, his accomplice destroyed in special operation in Dagestan

A submachine gun, a Stechkin pistol and several grenades were found at the site of the special operation. No one was injured

MOSCOW, October 28 (Itar-Tass) — Two gunmen were destroyed in a special operation in the Dagestani city Khasavyurt, a press officer of the information centre of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“When checking the detective information about possible whereabouts of active members of the Khasavyurt gang the task force of the Federal Security Service has detected their whereabouts on Sunday morning,” the press officer said.

The bandits blocked at a private house in the first south-western bystreet were offered to lay down arms. They opened the retaliatory fire and were destroyed in the shootout.

“They were preliminarily identified. The bandits turned out to be an active member of the gang Mikhail Akavov, 21, being on the federal wanted list and a resident of the village Babayurt and an active accomplice Ali Gadzhiyev, 20, a native of Khasavyurt,” the press officer said.

According to the republican operations headquarters of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, Akavov participated in an armed attack on a road police post not far from the village Babayurt on May 9. Then five policemen were injured. Last August he killed a resident of his village, Captain of Police Rasul Kachmazov, the press officer remarked.

A submachine gun, a Stechkin pistol and several grenades were found at the site of the special operation. No one was injured.

The search operation continues at the clash site.
