MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) —— A United Russia member of the State Duma, Alexander Sidyakin trampled a white ribbon, a symbol of demonstrations of protest since December last year, at the rostrum in the State Duma assembly hall.
The legislator known in particular as one of the authors of the law on large fines for rally violations, appeared before his colleagues with a black-and-orange ribbon on his jacket. "I have a George ribbon on me today. It identifies all of us as representatives of the multi-national nation of our large country. It is a symbol of patriotism," he said. "And now I want to show another symbol." He showed a white ribbon, " It is a symbol of capitulation, a symbol of betrayal, a colour of an exported revolution, which foreign political technologist attempt to impose on us," he said.
Rebuking Just Russia deputies, including Sergei Mironov, Ilya Ponomaryov, Dmitry Gudkov and Svetlana Goryacheva, for wearing the "pieces of cloth". Sidyakin threw the white piece onto the floor and began to trample it.
"I will do so with it. And if you put it on once again, I will ask my senior comrades in the party to seat me farther from you, to the LDPR," the United Russia member concluded.
Recalling Ivan Susanin's legendary feat, Sidyakin stated "Today we again are faced with challenges to our national sovereignty." "In essence, we have two patriotic national holidays -- May 9, Day of Victory over Fascism, and November 4, Day of People’s Unity." "It is a professional holiday of patriots," he said.
Congratulating his colleagues on the upcoming holiday, the legislator cited verses "There will be no revolution here, as people do not want it."
He believes a fifth column is formed in Russia, or as they call themselves -- "occupants". The United Russia member noted he was not against street democracy. "But we will act firmly with instigators of mass disorders," he stressed.
"The wail of the West about violation of rights in Russia -- it is a double standard," he said. In this connection, he mentioned the Guantanamo base and the tough actions of police against Wall Street "occupants".
The Just Russia party's Goryacheva, who spoke after Sidyakin, said that she had refused to put a white ribbon on her. "I was in the Just Russia faction among few deputies who refused to put white ribbons on themselves," she noted.
Goryacheva said she also had many questions to leaders of Bolotnaya Square opposition leaders. She also recommended United Russia members to look at their own mistakes.
"Gentlemen from the ruling party, maybe you then understand why people go out to the street," she said.
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky liked Sidyakin's speech. "A good speech. It sharply improved my mood and worsened the mood of Just Russia," he noted.
