MOSCOW, October 24 (Itar-Tass) — The suspects in the attempt on the life of the mufti of the Spiritual Directorate of Tatarstan’s Muslims and the murder of his deputy were destroyed in a special operation in Kazan. “During the investigative actions and the search, which the detectives of the investigation department of the Russian Investigation Committee in the Russian republic of Tatarstan and the officers of the republican Federal Security Service department and the police had conducted, the whereabouts of the defendants in the criminal case were detected,” spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“In the attempt by the task force of the republican Federal Security Service department to detain the suspects, the latter put up armed resistance and detonated an explosive device, presumably a grenade. An officer of the republican FSB department was killed in the blast. After that it was decided to launch a storming of the flat on the first floor of the residential house in Khimiki Street in Kazan, where the defendants had entrenched. The criminals were destroyed in the storming,” Markin underlined.

The sappers are working in the flat, where the wanted criminals were hiding, to provide an opportunity for the safe work of the team of the detectives at the site of the special operation.
