Alexander Grushko appointed Russia's permanent envoy to NATO

Earlier the post of Russia's permanent envoy to NATO had been occupied by Dmitry Rogozin

MOSCOW, October 24 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Grushko Russia's permanent envoy to NATO, the Kremlin website said.

Putin has relieved Grushko of his duties as a deputy foreign minister in connection with the transfer to another job.

Earlier, the post of Russia's permanent envoy to NATO had been occupied by Dmitry Rogozin who was Russia's envoy to NATO since January 2008 until December 2011. At present, Dmitry Rogozin occupies the post of a deputy prime minister of the Russian government to which Rogozin was first appointed in December 2011 and reappointed to the same post on May 21,2012 when the new Russian government was formed.

Alexander Grushko, born on April 25, 1955, graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in1977. Grushko has a diplomatic rank of an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador. He speaks Dutch and English.

Grushko has been working in the Russian Foreign Ministry since 1977. During the period of his work Grushko occupied different posts in the central apparatus of the Russian Foreign Ministry and abroad.

In 1995-1996 Grushko was chief of the Foreign Ministry department for security and disarmament.

In 1996-2000 Grushko headed a Russian Delegation on issues of military security and weapons control to Vienna negotiating forums; he was a representative of the Russian Federation to a joint Consultative Group on CFE and a Consultative Commission on Open Sky at the OSCE forum on cooperation in the field of security.

In 2001 Grushko was appointed Deputy director of the Department for common European cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and in November 2002 he was promoted to the post of the department Director.

Since 2005 Grushko in the rank of a deputy foreign minister supervised matters of European affairs and EurAtlantic organizations.

Alexander Grushko is a laureate of the Order of Friendship (2002) and a medal to the Order of Merit of the 2nd degree (1996).
