MOSCOW, October 23 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia calls on all leading political and religious forces in Lebanon to show restraint and to do their best to keep the situation in the political, legitimate frame, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, commenting of the tense situation in Lebanon after the October 19 terrorist act in Beirut’s Ashrafia.
“The Lebanese authorities, the army and other law enforcement agencies have taken measures to prevent further unrest and stop attempts to destabilize the situation in the country,” the ministry noted.
“Reiterating its support of Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, unity and stability, Russia calls on all leading Lebanese political and religious forces to show restraint, to spare no effort to keep the situation in the political, legal frame, to show accord and unity in the face of a common threat of destabilizing the fundamentals of the statehood and creating chaos,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed. “We hail the steps of Lebanese President Michel Sulayman and the country’s government aimed to normalize the situation, including the initiative to call an early session of the national dialogue, a mechanism which has proved its efficiency in solving problems of the Lebanese agenda.”
