Medvedev to address Anti-Counterfeiting - 2012 forum Monday

Twelve topical panel meetings, and a number of exhibitions are to be held within the framework of the forum

MOSCOW, October 22 (Itar-Tass) — Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will adress a plenary session of the first International Anti-Kontrafakt (anti-counterfeiting) - 2012 forum here on Monday. The government press service reports that the main themes of the forum will be protection of the intellectual property, counteraction to trafficking in counterfeited, falsified and subquality produce.

First Vice-Premier Igor Shuvalov, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Minister of the Interior Vladimir Kolokoltsev, officials of relevant ministries and agencies, leading international experts, and business executives will participate in the forum.

The first International Anti-Counterfeiting forum is held from October 22 to 24 with the RF government's support. The Ministry of Industry and Trade in conjunction with the NP (non-commercial partnership) "Anti-Kontrafakt" is the organizer of the forum. Igor Shuvalov is the chairman of the forum's organizing committee.

The main purposes and tasks of the forum are to establish an exhibition floor for Russian and foreign manufacturers of quality products, demonstrate and discuss the newest technologies and means for the protection of products from counterfeiting, as well as to assert Russia as a country which is active in protecting and putting a stop to breaches of intellectual property rights. Special attention in the forum proceedings will be devoted to ways to protect intellectual property, as well as to information on the protection of copyright and related rights, registration of patents and trademarks.

Twelve topical panel meetings, and a number of exhibitions are to be held within the framework of the forum, with more than 1,500 Russian and foreign experts participating.

In particular, an exhibition on the theme of "The Future of Russia Without Counterfeiting" will make it possible to show the latest tendencies on the market of counteraction to the spread of counterfeit products and piracy, to discuss the latest technological studies in this field directly with producer company executives, and to get acquainted with the potential of the laboratory facilities for the conduct of appropriate research and testing. A special section of the exhibition is to display specimens of counterfeit products withdrawan from circulation in the country's territory and recognized as such by judicial agencies.

A business zone has been also arranged at the forum: an interactive floor for an object-lesson to demonstrate present-day technologies and methods for the protection of output from counterfeiting, and techniques for rapid tests, and and other kinds of estimation of output so as to spot adulteration.
