Putin to hold conf on social problems of single-industry towns Mon

As of now, the list of single-industry towns comprises 333 populated areas where the number of unemployed is more than 100,000

MOSCOW, October 22 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin will hold a conference on Monday on support for and solution to the social problems of single-industry towns, the Kremlin press service announced on Sunday.

Vice-Premier Igor Shuvalov, Minister of Economic Development Andrei Belousov, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Minister of Regional Development Igor Slunyayev, Minister of Labour and Social Protection Maxim Topilin, Elvira Nabiullina, Assistant to the President, Vladimir Dmitriyev, Vnesheconombank’s CEO, as well as -- in a video conference mode-- the heads of a number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation will participate in the conference.

As of now, the list of single-industry towns comprises 333 populated areas where the number of unemployed is more than 100,000. In order to settle the problems of those towns in the 2010-2011 period, a pilot phase of State support was worked out and implemented, easing tension on the labour market and creating about 60,000 permanent jobs. The Federal budget expenditure on these purposes ran at over 24,000 million roubles.
