BANGKOK, October 21 (Itar-Tass) — A Russian tourist died in Thailand’s Pattaya as she was rescuing her little daughter, Russia’s Deputy Consul in Thailand Alexei Falunin said on Sunday.

The little girl is in hospital now, nothing threatens her life, he said.

“In the accident, the girl received a head injury, she is in hospital now, all necessary treatment is made, and nothing threatens her like,” the deputy consul said. The girl will remain at hospital at least for a week, he added.

The woman came to the resort city on the shore of the Gulf of Siam from Sakhalin together with her husband and two children. Together with a group of tourists, on the night of Saturday they were by a caf· in Pattaya buying fruit from a street seller, as the two-year girl ran to the road. The mother rushed after her and pushed her from under the wheels of an approaching truck.

“The consular service contacts the relatives of the deceased and controls the situation fully,” Falunin said. The insurance the woman and the girl had must be sufficient to cover all expenses caused by the tragedy, the diplomat added.

Local media report that the truck driver was delivering stone blocks to a house construction site in Pattaya. He said he did not manage to see anything, but felt a kick on the cabin. Then, he heard people crying and returned to the tragedy site.
