Medvedev greets road construction workers on their professional holiday

The professional holiday of road constructors is celebrated every third Sunday in October

MOSCOW, October 21 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev greeted workers and veterans of the road construction industry on their professional holiday on Sunday, the governmental press service reported.

The greeting reads:

“Effective development of the road net is a strategic priority for this huge country. On it depend the smooth communication between Russia’s region, reliable delivery of passengers and cargo, and development of international cooperation. Generally speaking – higher competitiveness of the Russian economy, improvement of its defence and security.

Presently, the industry faces tasks to construct new speed highways for secure and comfortable transportation. Special attention should be made to use of innovation materials and technologies, to use of intellectual transport systems, of modern road construction equipment.”

The prime minister expressed confidence “experience and responsible approach to work” of those working at road construction “will continue servicing interests of the state and its citizens.”

The professional holiday of road constructors was celebrated for the first time 16 years earlier, and from 2000 it is celebrated every third Sunday in October.
