KIEV, October 21 (Itar-Tass) — Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich last week signed a decree on celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Ukraine’s liberation from fascist occupiers and the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Its aim is to immortalize the people’s feat in that war, pay tribute to the memory of those who died to free their Homeland and increase social protection of the war veterans.

Yanukovich has announced 2015 a year of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

The president ordered the government to set up an organizing committee for the celebrations of these two dates to be headed by the prime minister and the presidential administration chief.

The presidential decree suggests increasing social care for war veterans and holding various cultural actions, thematic exhibitions and scientific conferences. A series of documentary books with the memories of veterans who liberated Ukraine will be published and memorial medals, coins and stamps will be issued.

Yanukovich ordered to design a common jubilee medal on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Victory jointly with other CIS states. Several commemorative events will take place in 2013-2014 in connection with the 70th anniversary of Ukraine’s liberation from Nazi occupiers.

The presidential decree on celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War is our moral duty and obligation to the war veterans, presidential administration chief Sergei Lavochkin said.
