Moscow and St. Petersburg to allow road accident participants not to call in police as experiment

Now they can do so if the damage caused as a result of a road accident does not exceed 30,000 roubles

PETROPAVLOVSK KAMCHATKY, October 20 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow, Moscow Region and St. Petersburg will launch an experiment to allow participants in road accidents to record them on their own without calling in traffic police.

Now they can do so if the damage caused as a result of a road accident does not exceed 30,000 roubles. During the experiment “this ceiling” will be eliminated and participants in road accidents will be allowed to “record [the accident] using standard means – a video camera or a telephone, testify jointly and then take it to the insurance company”, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said in an interview with Sergei Brilev’s Vesti v Subbotu (News on Saturday) TV programme on October 20.

“I think the experiment will be successful and, after some time, will be extended to the rest of the country. But we will have to raise the ceiling for the rest of the country from 30,000 to 50,000 roubles,” Shuvalov said.
