HAVANA, October 19 (Itar-Tass) – Unconfirmed reports on a possible deterioration of Fidel Castro’s health that have surfaced in a number of foreign have not affected the situation in Cuba.
The situation in Havana is undisturbed and people’s moods do not give any grounds for thinking that the life of Comandante Fidel is really in danger.
Cuba’s state and political leaders have not made any statements so far. Earlier in the week, the local printed media published Fidel’s congratulatory address to the graduates of Havana’s famous medical college.
Andrei Temnikov, the Counselor Minister of the Russian embassy in Cuba, told Itar-Tass Russia’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov had arrived in Havana Friday for consultations.
“The senior officials of the Cuban Foreign Ministry told him at the meeting that, luckily, they didn’t have any sad comments to make and everything was OK,” Temnikov said.
The itinerary of Denisov’s visit features a meeting with First Deputy Minister Marcelino Medina and talks with a broad circle of participants.
“Most likely, Minister Bruno Rodriguez will receive him, too,” he said.
Comandante stopped publishing the new installments of his ‘Reflections’ in the local media as of June 19, and the last time television audiences saw him on the screens was at the end of March when he met with Pope Benedict XVI, who was making an apostolic visit to the Freedom Island.
Nonetheless, Fidel’s son Alex said October 12 his father was feeling well and reading books intensively.
