Digger girl reported missing in drain manifold underneath Moscow

A search operation involving three rescuer teams is underway

MOSCOW, October 19 (Itar-Tass) —— A girl ‘digger’ has been reported missing in a Moscow underground drain manifold, a spokesman for the Russian emergencies ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.

According to the spokesman a report about the missing girl came at about 22:30 on Thursday. “According to her friend, Polina Prokofyeva, a first-year student of the geological department of the Moscow State University, got down inside the drain at the Khoroshevskoye Highway at about 13:00 and did not show up until evening,” the spokesman said.

A search operation involving three rescuer teams is underway.

The word “diggers” is used in both English and Russian to describe an emerging sub-culture of amateur explorers who attempt to penetrate the secret spaces underneath Moscow.
