Georgia president nominates officially Bidzina Ivanishvili for prime minister

The newly elected government will hold its first meeting on October 21

TBILISI, October 17 (Itar-Tass) —— Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili nominated officially Bidzina Ivanishvili for prime minister, Georgian presidential press secretary Manana Mandzhagaladze told reporters on Wednesday.

Ivanishvili is the leader of the Georgian Dream coalition, which won at the parliamentary elections on October 1. The coalition gained a simple majority (85 from 150 seats) in the parliament and can form a new government.

The newly elected government will hold its first meeting on October 21. The parliamentary speaker and his deputies will be elected at this parliamentary meeting. After relevant procedures the parliament will begin to approve a new government.
