RF presid appoints Igor Slyunyayev regional development minister

Slyunyaev has earlier occupied the post of the governor in the Kostroma Region

MOSCOW, October 17 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a decree appointing Igor Slyunyayev as the country's regional development minister, the Kremlin press service reported on Wednesday.

By the same decree Oleg Govorun was relieved of duties of the regional development minister. Slyunyayev earlier held the post of governor of the Kostroma Region.

Govorun held the post of the regional development minister since May 21, 2012 when the RF president signed the corresponding decree. In September, Putin reprimanded Govorun and another two ministers for poor fulfilment of instructions of the head of state.

This week, some media published information about the RF regional development minister's possible resignation.

Igor Nikolayevich Slyunyaev was born on October 4, 1966 in the town of Isilkul, Omsk Region.

In 1992 he graduated from the Moscow Higher Police School of the RF Interior Ministry, and in 1999 – from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.

He has the Doctor of Law degree.

In 1988 - 1994 he served in the police.

In 1994 - 1996 he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Mossibinterbank.

In 1996 - 1998 he was an advisor and RF Deputy Minister for Cooperation with the CIS Member States.

In 1999 – he was head of the income support department of the Russian Federal Highway Agency.

In 1999 – 2000 he was Deputy Director General of the Russian Federal Highway Agency.

In 2000 - 2001 - Deputy Transport Minister.

In 2001 - 2004 he was First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Head of the State Road Service.

In 2005 he served as an advisor to the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

In 2006 - 2007 - member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the executive body of authority of the Altai Territory - the administration of the Altai Territory.

In 2007 - 2012 - governor of the Kostroma Region. On October 25, 2007, his candidature was approved by the Kostroma Regional Duma on the Russian president’s recommendation.

Igor Slyunyayev is married and has a son.
