MOSCOW, October 15 (Itar-Tass) — The condition of two persons injured in a household gas explosion in an apartment building in Yekaterinburg is grave, the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry’s (EMERCOM) main department for the Sverdlovsk region told Itar-Tass by telephone.

There was a gas explosion at 13:49 MSK on Monday in an apartment on the second floor of a nine-storey residential house in Yekaterinburg that triggered a fire. According to the city police, six people have been injured in the blast: three representatives of the gas supply service and three residents of the house. According to preliminary information, the apartment residents called a gas service, reporting the specific gas odour. The service representatives arrived on the call, but when they were examining and repairing the equipment an explosion occurred.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that five people have been injured in the blast. “Five people, two of them were in grave condition, were hospitalised,” the EMERCOM regional department explained. Fire fighters have evacuated 30 people from the house and rescued five. “One man had to be evacuated from an elevator,” the regional EMERCOM department said.

EMERCOM officers and police have been working at the scene. The open fire has already been liquidated. The blast shattered windows in some apartments of the house.
