Court arrests defendant in road accident that killed actress Golub

Rusakov and his lawyer do not intend to appeal this court verdict

MOSCOW, October 15 (Itar-Tass) —— The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sanctioned an arrest of Alexei Rusakov, who is accused of committing a lethal road incident, which killed famous Russian actress Marina Golub and the driver of a Hyundai car, which was driving with her. Thus, the court satisfied a request from the detective to put Rusakov under arrest.

“The court ruled to satisfy the request from the detective and put Rusakov under arrest until December 10,” Judge Tatiana Neverova said.

The court ruled that the detectives had gathered enough evidence to put the defendant under arrest.

Rusakov and his lawyer do not intend to appeal this court verdict.

It became clear at a Monday court session that the defendant was already repeatedly brought to responsibility for violations of the traffic rules, including overspeeding.

Rusakov stated that before the detention he had a telephone conversation with the operatives and said to them that he wants to surrender. “I was not detained, I was driving to surrender according to the preliminary agreement and signed the first statement to surrender and signed the second statement already at the room of the detective,” he insisted.

In reply to a question of the judge, what prevented him from giving himself up before, Rusakov said that he “was afraid of a bias of the law enforcement agencies.” According to him, already on the next day after the road incident the media showed him “from his bad side and exerted pressure on the family and his relatives.”

Meanwhile, the defendant stated that he is ready to talk to the relatives of the road accident victims to indemnify the moral compensations.

The suspected culprit of the road accident and his lawyer left a ruling for a measure of restraint at consideration of the court. Meanwhile, the lawyer noted that his client “pleads guilty fully.” He noted that the defendant is “not a blatant dodger from responsibility,” but a victim of “the one-sided coverage of his personality in the media.”

For his part, the detective explained Rusakov’s detention became possible after the information about a possible detention of his girlfriend Viktoria Klyukina allegedly for hiding the defendant was made public in the press. “After that Rusakov got in touch with her and Klyukina went to meet with him already under the surveillance of operatives,” the detective explained.

He also noted that the detectives have all the reasons to believe that Rusakov may escape again or obstruct the investigation in some other way.

The prosecutor supported the request from the detective, asking the judge to put the defendant under arrest.

On Sunday, October 14, Rusakov was accused under Article 264 Part 5 of the Criminal Code for violation of the traffic rules that entailed the death of two and more people through negligence and under Article 125 for leaving a person in danger. The foresaid articles envisage a term of up to seven years and up to one year in prison, respectively.

The road incident, in which Marina Golub was killed, occurred overnight to October 10 on the crossroads of Vernadsky Avenue and Lobachevsky Street. The police reported that Rusakov’s Cadillac violated the banning traffic lights and rammed in a Hyundai car that was driving with the actress. After that the cars stuck in the cars Kia and Lada. Golub and the Hyundai driver died in the road accident. The Cadillac driver escaped from the crime scene.

Overnight to October 13 Rusakov posted a video address on the Internet, where he confessed that he was driving the Cadillac. Escaping from the crime scene he explained by the fact that he was in the state of shock.

Rusakov was detained in a detective operation, as he was tricked out from a Moscow regional settlement, where he was hiding.
