Household gas blast in Yekaterinburg causes fire

The house residents’ evacuation is currently underway

MOSCOW, October 15 (Itar-Tass) — There has been a household gas explosion in an apartment building in Yekaterinburg, the press service of the Urals regional centre of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) told Itar-Tass by telephone on Monday.

“A gas blast with fire occurred at 13:49 MSK on the second floor of a nine-storey apartment house in Yekaterinburg,” the source said. The house residents’ evacuation is currently underway.

“According to preliminary information, five people have been injured,” a representative of the regional emergencies centre said. According to him, windows have been shattered in some of the house apartments.

Rescuers, fire fighters, as well as representatives of all the response services are working at the scene.

“The circumstances and consequences of the incident are being ascertained,” the regional EMERCOM centre said.
